Chabura Spotlight: Yosef Tischler

Yosef Tischler, or “Tisch” is currently spending his first summer as a Madrich on NCSY Kollel and is having an absolute blast! He attended Heichal Hatorah for high school, and just finished his Shana Bet at Mevaseret.

Yosef’s chabura is made up of some of the most quality guys around. Yedidya Shienson from Hillside (JEC), Aaron Botvinik from Highland Park (MTA), Eli Weinberger from Philly (Go Eagles!, Mesivta) and Yaakov Katz from Cincinnati (Chafetz Chaim).

This summer, Yosef’s Chaburah will be going through some of the deepest and most intriguing Aggadata in Shas. They will be taking and learning from these Gemaras how to improve their Medos, how to have a more meaningful connection to Teffilah, and how to build a much more personal and authentic relationship with Hashem.

This summer has been off to a fantastic start so far, and we can’t wait to see where it goes from here.

Chabura Spotlight: Eitan Dukas

Eitan Dukas is enjoying his third summer on NCSY Kollel. A member of Teaneck and Bergenfield (house is on the border) Eitan attended Frisch, then Shaalvim for 2 years, and is currently entering into his second year at YU.

Eitan’s chaburah has representation from all across the globe. Coming in from the west coast, we have one of YULA’s finest, Barak Kaplan. Representing the east coast, we have some of MTAs best guys. Elisha Gamms, Dovi Rosman, and Dov Klar all hail from Bergenfield, while Chaim Simon holds down the fort in Teaneck. And finally, from the Holy Land itself, one of Yashlatz’s best Chaim Turetsky.

This summer the chaburah has been learning all about Mitzvos Bein Adam L’chaveiro. They have learned an array of topics, which include sugyos in lomdus, halacha, and machshava. These include learning about all the different opinions on how to fulfill the mitzvah of V’ehavta L’reacha Kamocha, how to fulfill the mitzvah of bikkur cholim, why it’s so bad to judge other people, and so much more.

This chaburah has already learned and grown so much and can’t wait to finish out the summer strong!

Chabura Spotlight: Ezra Baron

Ezra Baron is currently enjoying his third year on NCSY Kollel, where he is serving as a Madrich for his second year in a row. Ezra attended TABC for two years, before taking his talents to the Ayalon Valley and Yeshivat Sha’alvim for two years. Last year, he started YU with hopes of majoring in Accounting.

Ezra’s chabura has great guys from all different schools. Coming all the way from Silver Spring, MD is Mayer Frenkel (Berman) who is always the first guy to answer questions. Reuben Kaminetzky (TABC) is from New Milford and his consistency in the Chaburah is unmatched. Repping Spring Valley, NY is Ben Sicherman (MTA) who always knows the answers before there is even a question. Last but not least is Yehuda Nissani (Rambam) from Queens, NY who always gets the chabura going with his hilarious comments. Despite hailing from different backgrounds, the guys have meshed really well together, providing for great conversations both in and out of the chabura.

Ezra’s chabura have started off by learning deep lessons about the Mesorah and about being part of something great. Going forward, they hope to learn different sugyot about Bein Adam l’Chavero with a specific aim on improving how they interact with others in their own lives. Some topics they hope to cover include V’ahavta L’reicha Kamocha, Nosei B’ol Im Chaveiro and Lo Tachamod. The guys are always bouncing sharp ideas off each other, and trying to understand how they can use the Torah to improve their lives and their relationships with the world around them. Through these topics and discussions, the chabura hopes to make an impact not only on ourselves, but on all of Klal Yisrael, one person at a time.

Ezra is super excited for the rest of the summer and for the chabura to keep reaching new heights, both this summer, and beyond.

Chabura Spotlight: Chaim Davidowitz

Chaim Davidowitz, AKA  “Dovid” or “CD” is having a blast being a Madrich on Kollel for the first time. Hailing from Bergenfield, New Jersey, Chaim went to MTA for High School and then spent two years learning in Yeshivat Sha’alvim. Chaim is excited to continue his learning at YU in Rav Mayer Twersky’s Shiur this fall.

Chaim’s Chabura(nicknamed “The Bruh”) is filled with a group of the 4 best guys imaginable. In no particular order, these superstars are: the Panini-loving Yisroel Shaffren from Bergenfield (Heichal), the 3-point Sharpshooter Eitan Kahn from the 5-Towns (DRS), the “Jewish Jokic” Ezra Schwartz from Chicago (Fasman), and golf-obsessed Rami Shaw from Pittsburgh (Fasman). The Chabura loves to laugh and is filled with camaraderie and bitting around between the guys.

The Limud of the Chabura is a focus on the Daily Avodah and how Kedusha is able to be grabbed from all around . This includes going through the things that are done every single day through the Lens of Halacha, Machshava, and some Lomdus. The learning and connection has been great so far and should only get better from here on out, and hopefully continue well beyond the summer!

Chabura Spotlight: Akiva Kroll

This is Akiva’s second summer on Kollel, and his first time being a Madrich. Growing up in Boca Raton and then Riverdale, Akiva attended Katz Yeshiva High School for two years and then completed his last two years at SAR High School. He spent two years in Yeshivat Sha’alvim and is heading to Yeshiva University this fall.

Akiva has the true pleasure of having an excellent group of thoughtful, fun, and energetic guys. Josh Pachter (YULA) and Yaakov Rbibo (YULA) represent the West Coast in the Chabura. From the Five Towns: Yoel Loloi (MAY), Zach Brand (DRS), and Moshe Brazil (DRS) complete the dynamic chevra.

The Chabura is focused on learning sugyas through the Rambam in Lumdus and Machshava (with a healthy amount of chilling, too). Whether it be examining the mitzvah of loving Hashem, developing a new definition of “happiness,” or gleaning different ideas about why we wear tzitzis, the chabura tries to cover a wide variety of topics filled with filled with substance and beautiful ideas. The goal of the chabura is to develop a deeper appreciation and connection to learning Torah, and hopefully connect to some of the profound ideas behind each and every mitzvah.

Akiva and the guys are having such an enjoyable and special summer filled with lots of chilling, learning, and thoughtful conversations and are so excited for much more!

Chabura Spotlight: Gavi Domsky

Gavi is currently living it up in his first year ever on NCSY Kollel. Gavi is from Chicago and attended the Yeshiva for high school followed by two years learning in Yeshivat Sha’alvim. Gavi is now currently learning in Yeshiva University.

Now to the fun stuff, Gavi is currently the Madrich for a star studded Chabura this summer. Kicking off the Ohio boys is the next Jewish MLB pitcher Mordechai Braunstein from Cincinnati. Next up is Mr. Fundamental himself Uriel Joel from Cleveland. Rounding out the Ohio squad is our ‘locked in’ lead singer Ezra Smith from Cleveland. Then there’s the Philly boys. Starting with the man keeping us entertained on the group chat Ezra Avis. And finally the Sephardi party and man with the most swag this camp has ever seen Natanel Bitas.

This Summer Gavi’s Chabura has delved deep into the world of Talmud Torah and plans to then continue into analyzing the Aseres Hadibros. The Chabura has been on fire as we make our way through the summer and plans to continue to grow throughout the rest of camp.

Chabura Spotlight: Eli Fishbein

Eli Fishbein is attending NCSY Kollel for the very first time. Eli attended Kushner for high school followed by two years at Reishit and is beginning YU in the fall.

Joining Eli in the Chabura are four amazing and unique NCSYers. Akiva Parver, from New Milford, NJ, our Face-Off champion, constantly brings a heimish lens to what we are learning and speaking about as well as a great niggun to recommend to the chevra. He is very bright and invested in whatever it is he is doing and has a bright future ahead of him. Next up we got Momo Greenberg from the Yeshiva in Chicago, IL. Moyms is the glue guy of our Chabura. He is always making great ha’aros about our learning and even greater ones about our hock. On top of creating tremendous unity, Moyms has also taken it upon himself to educate us on the different ways to cook berries. Nathan Grossman, from Boston, MA, our resident Sefardi, made an immediate difference in the chabura’s learning. Nathan excels at asking detailed questions and providing a lot of comedic relief. Last but certainly not least is Ilan Wachstock from Hollis, NY. Ilan brings tremendous enthusiasm to the Chabura. A big jokester, Ilan is always cracking up at something that the Chabura has said. On top of all of that, Ilan is always providing good insight onto whatever sugya we are learning.

The Chabura is focusing on hilchos Brachos Ha’nehenin. Whether it be something from inside our sources or an idea spoken outside, the guys are always enthusiastic about being around each other in a Torah environment. Some of the topic we have covered this summer include “Why are we supposed to say 100 brachos a day” and “why do we make brachos on things that give us benefit.”

The summer has been great for the Chabura so far and we should all only continue to enjoy it and grow!

Chabura Spotlight: Yaakov Fuchs

Yaakov Fuchs is enjoying his 4th summer on the NCSY Summer Kollel, and his second as a madrich. After graduating from DRS Yeshiva High School, Yaakov spent two years in Yeshivat Shaalvim and is entering his final year at Yeshiva University, where he has the zechus to learn under Rav Mayer Twersky shlit”a.

Yaakov’s chaburah is widely considered one of the most fiery and lively groups on the Kollel, with a goated group of 5 Mevakshei Hashem in the mix.

Leading off from Bergenfield is the venerable Natan Burg (MTA). Natan’s quick and sharp mind helps infuse our chaburah with a sense of intellect, and keeps the group on their toes with his incredible bekius in Rav Soloveichik’s Torah on Meseches Gittin.

The next Bergenfield bachur is the outspoken and epic Avrumi Shor (Heichal). Avrumi keeps the energy flowing in the chaburah, with his fun loving attitude and insightful comments. Never scared to share his take, bringing the beautiful ‘milchamta shel Torah’ to the midst of the learning, Avi is one of the anchors of the ‘Burah.

Taking a break from the in-towners, down on the farm in Baltimore is the one and only Dov Hirsch (TA ➡️ Mesivta of Philadelphia). There is never a day in chaburah where Dov doesn’t work his hardest to get to the Emes of the sugya, with a tremendous thirst for intellectual honesty and authentic Yiddishkeit.

Coming back to the tri-state area, from the enclave of Monsey is the cool and calculated Moshe Lorber (MTA). Moshe is one of the more reserved members of the chaburah, soaking in the emes of Torah, but is not scared to share his take or answer when called to the task. A wonderful Ben Torah with fantastic middos, Moshe keeps the chaburah grounded (quite literally in our chairs) and ready to roll.

Finishing us off, from the city of Passaic NJ is the great Akiva “Snitty” Snitow. Akiva is the designated chazarah man of the chaburah, giving a brief chazarah at the beginning of the chaburah, so that the chaburah can retain the Torah that we learn. Akiva is known to seek additional ruchniyus opportunities during other points of the day, learning with Moreinu Harav Schachter shlit”a in the afternoons.

This summer, the chaburah is focused on a unique limmud in preparation for all of our wonderful tiyulim across Eretz Yisrael. Each week, the chaburah focuses on a different city in Eretz Yisrael, and learns parallel sugyos in Shas, Halacha, Machshava, and Chassidus which bring greater depth to the city. The week of the Eilat trip, the chaburah tried to figure out if Eilat is part of the Halachic Eretz Yisrael, and its ramifications for Terumos and Maasros. The group then plunged into the sugya of Kedusha Rishonah and Shniyah, in both lomdus and Chassidus. In preparation for Teveryah, the chaburah learned about Rebbe Meir Baal Hanes, and what it means to be a Child of Hashem.

The goal of the chaburah is to develop a close connection to the light of Eretz Yisrael, Torah, chaveirim, and Hashem together!

The summer has been epic so far, and will only continue to get stronger!

Chabura Spotlight: Jon Comet

Hailing from Teaneck, NJ, Jonathan Comet is an alumni of Yeshivas Frisch and Yeshivat Hakotel, and is entering his second year in YU this coming year. It’s his first year on Kollel and since he was blessed to be given a chabura of 6 All Stars, he’s really loving it!!

First, from the Upper West is MTA’s Akiva Levine, who’s brilliance and quick thinking keeps everyone on their toes. From the Five Towns we have Dani Posner and Avraham Steinberg, who both attend DRS. They came in with a strong, healthy friendship while looking to branch out as well. Next is the heart and soul of the Chabura, Eli Kroll from Riverdale, NY, who goes to SAR High School. He’s the biggest 2048 fan we’ve ever seen, and knows how to lock in for learning whenever necessary. Lastly we have another strong duo from Valley Village in LA. The YULA boys, Aharon Cooper and Nate Gottesman, are always exhilarating to be around. Nate knows exactly what to say to keep us all on edge, and we appreciate Aharon’s loving attempts to reel him back in.

This summer we’re learning different Mekoros pertaining to Torah, Avoda, and Gemilus Chasadim. We first focused on our personal relationship to Torah, then moved on to our relationship with Hashem, and lastly our relationships with ourselves, family, and friends. We do a lot of reflection and discussion in this Chabura, and the chevra always has a lot to say!! We look forward to any form of free food, outdoor adventures, and day dreaming about chabura trips! This summer has been amazing so far, and it should only keep improving!!

Chabura Spotlight: Binyamin Fox

Hailing from Teaneck, NJ, Binyamin Fox is enjoying his second summer on NCSY Kollel, and first as a Madrich. After graduating from MTA, Binyamin spent the past two years learning at Yeshivat Har Etzion (Gush). This coming year Binyamin will attend Columbia University.

Binyamin’s chabura consists of some of the best guys around. The chabura’s American branch is supported by Reuven Yoffe from Lakewood (JEC), and Yonatan Glazer of Los Angeles (MBY), while its Israeli squad is represented by Elyashiv Goldberg from Alon Shvut (Chorev) and Yaakov Lubetski of Efrat (Orot Yehuda).

The chabura has been focusing on analyzing key sugyos in the first perek of Maseches Brachos, with a particular emphasis on the Mitzvah of Krias Shema. The goal of the chabura is to carefully analyze meforshim inside and focus on the conceptual development of various halachos pertaining to these foundational mitzvos, while simultaneously fostering a deep connection to our mesorah. Many of these discussions have stemmed from thoroughly exploring the pasuk of “Bischachvecha Uvikumecha,” the requirement to recite Shema both by night and by day. Along the way, Binyamin’s chabura has touched upon a number of other important Shas topics and Sugyos, such as Osek BaMitzvah Patur Min HaMitzvah, Siyagim/Harchakos (rabbinical injunctions), and what determines whether different aspects of a Mitzvah are Miakev or not. On Shabbos, the chabura has discussed other fascinating topics, including Techeles and Shnayim Mikra Vi’Echad Targum.

The summer has been spectacular thus far and should only be getting better from here. Looking forward to finishing off the summer strong!
