Sam Sicklick is currently enjoying his third summer on NCSY Kollel. He attended Rambam and Sha’alvim and is currently in YU. This is Sam’s first year as a Madrich.
Sam’s chabura includes some of the best guys around: Moshe Horn from Neve Daniel (שבות ישראל), Eitan Gecovich from Cleveland (Fuchs Mizrachi), Steven Brenis from Cleveland (Fuchs Mizrachi), Shai Hahn from Teaneck (Frisch), Jordy Sheinfeld from Teaneck (Frisch), and Eitan Yasharpour from Encino, CA (Valley Torah).
This summer, Sam’s chabura will be focusing on זמירות שבת. They will be learning about a variety of topics including the role of song and music in Judaism at large and on שבת in specific, identifying the מצוות of שבת and determining if there is a possibility of fulfilling them via זמירות שבת, and in-depth study of שלום עליכם, יום זה מכובד, מזמור לדוד, and מנוחה ושמחה based on the sources of the פייטנים as well as parallels and symbolism in the rhyme scheme and poetic structure, and much, much more. The goal of the learning is to provide an exposure to a wide range of forms of לימוד התורה. This is actually why we are going through the זמירות, since they touch upon so many areas and perspectives of תורה which we can potentially connect to. The chabura will see applications of חקירה based לומדות, as well as חשבון, with plenty of הלכה, חסידות, מוסר and מחשבה from a variety of sources and personalities.
The summer has been great so far and it should only get better from here!
