Chabura Spotlight: BZ Scheinman

NCSY Kollel July 24, 2023

BZ Scheinman is returning to NCSY Kollel for his second summer, his first as a Madrich on the program. Hailing from Woodmere, NY, BZ attended DRS, Yeshivat Sha’alvim for two years, and is enrolled to attend YU this coming year. The 3rd Scheinman brother to attend the program, BZ has been considered a Kollel vet from long before he ever stepped foot in Beit Meir.

BZ’s electric post 9th and 10th grade Chabura really breaks down the barriers between in-town and out-of-town. All attending Kollel for the first time, the Chabura consists of six of the most incredible NCSYers: Aryeh Levi, from Beit Shemesh, Israel (YTA), Moshe Hoffman, from Philadelphia, PA (Mesivta High School), Chaim Baratz, from Cherry Hill, NJ (Mesivta High School), Hillel Fried, from Bergenfield, NJ (Heichal Hatorah), Binyomin Savetsky, from Bergenfield, NJ (Heichal Hatorah), and Netanel Herschmann, from Spring Valley, NY (Heichal Hatorah). Every member of the Chaburah is tremendously unique, coming together to create an amazingly chill and enjoyable environment to learn together.

This summer, BZ’s Chabura is bringing together two worlds: Mitzvos and SportsCenter. Each Sugya deals with an individual Mitzvah, going into Halachic based discussions built around super practical cases that we may deal with in our everyday lives, giving the guys both informative and useful Torah knowledge. Consisting of ten Mitzvah based Chaburas, these Sugyas truly make up the “Top 10 Mitzvos.” Some of the fascinating topics that they’re covering include “Writing a Sefer Torah: Does the Torah Discriminate Against Lefties,” “Pidyom Shvuyim: Gilad Shalit vs. Brittany Griner,” and “Avodah Zara: Does the Torah Outlaw Percy Jackson?” The Sugyas have proven to be a great mix of challenging and exciting material, and the Chaburah is truly enjoying tying together Gemaras and Machlokesim surrounding these very applicable cases.

BZ and his Chaburah have enjoyed an amazing summer thus far, and are looking forward to the rest of the summer, which will hopefully be an unbelievable opportunity to continue learning together and become even more tight knit than they are already!
